Picasso created the Fumeur series in the 1960s, a period when he was reflecting on themes of identity, aging, and artistic vitality. The smoker figure often represented a self-reflective persona—an artist or thinker in repose. In this work, Picasso merges youthful color and playful abstraction with the seasoned mastery of his later years.
