Enfants jouant à la balle is a charming color lithograph by Pierre-Auguste Renoir capturing the carefree innocence of childhood. The scene portrays four young girls at play in a sunlit field. In the foreground, two bend toward the ground to retrieve a ball, their dresses—rendered in soft reds and creams—billowing with movement. In the background, two others spin in joyful motion, evoking laughter and vitality.

Renoir’s masterful use of lithography translates his painterly Impressionist touch into print form: soft, luminous tones of rose, beige, and pale blue blend seamlessly, creating a gentle harmony of light and color. The delicate linework and atmospheric softness convey both immediacy and tenderness, hallmarks of Renoir’s late style.

This work belongs to a series of lithographs Renoir created in collaboration with his publisher Ambroise Vollard, who sought to reproduce the artist’s characteristic warmth and sensuality through the lithographic medium.
"Enfants jouant à la balle" exemplifies Renoir’s enduring fascination with domestic and rural innocence, celebrating simple pleasures and the fleeting beauty of everyday life.
