The original Renaissance artist, Lucas Cranach the Elder, painted many versions of Venus and Cupid, often featuring Venus standing while Cupid does something mischievous (like stealing honey and getting stung).

Picasso’s version strips away the elegance and inserts psychological complexity, reflecting themes of power, vulnerability, and sexuality.
