Widely regarded as the father of the modern poster, Jules Chéret transformed the streets of Paris in the late 19th century with his colorful lithographs celebrating dance, theater, and Parisian leisure. His work combined elements of Impressionism and Rococo lightness, marked by an emphasis on movement, festivity, and the beauty of the female form — the so-called “Chérette”, his archetype of modern womanhood: confident, elegant, and free-spirited.

In La Guirlande des Fleurs, these qualities converge in a composition that feels both decorative and painterly. The pastel’s vibrant palette and fluid design reflect Chéret’s lifelong fascination with color harmony and the joy of modern life.
